| Lackland Team Detonates Unexploded
WW II Ordnance
LACKLAND AIR FORCE BASE, Texas (AETCNS) -- Crews from the 37th Civil Engineer Squadron unearthed an unexploded World War II-era ordnance at a construction site here today. A team from the 37th CES Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit responded and safely removed and detonated the device at Lackland's EOD range this afternoon. Officials report no one was injured in either the discovery or disposal of the device. In the interest of safety, all further excavation and construction has been halted until further surveys of the area have been completed. Prior to 1941, Lackland was used as a
bombing training range before it was later cleaned up and developed
in the 1940s. |
